Hippotherapy is a unique form of therapy that utilizes the movement of a horse to work on balance, coordination, posture, mobility, and muscle tone. Specially trained therapists use the horse as a therapy tool to treat those with neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction. The goal is not to teach the child how to ride a horse, but is intended to carryover for improved functional abilities in daily living.
Is Hippotherapy for your child?
Your physical therapist will recommend children who would benefit from this program. The horse is part of a comprehensive treatment program. During your child's 60 minute sessions, they will be on the horse for only 30 minutes. Therapy will occur both on and off of the horse.
