What is the PTS feeding program?
- The PTS feeding program is adapted from the Sequential Oral Sensory Approach to feeding (SOS) developed by Kay A. Toomey PH.D.
- It is an approach modeled around reducing sensitivities to the sensory qualities of foods. Children are encouraged to play and interact with the food.
- The PTS feeding program is a 10-12 week group that meets one time per week for an hour.
- The program contains 2 or more children who are problem feeders.
- Occupational and/or speech therapists facilitate the group.
- During each session, foods are presented to children while working them through the 28 steps of eating. The steps start from tolerating the foods being in the same room to chewing and swallowing the foods independently.
- Parents are educated to facilitate the program at home during therapy meals or snack times.
